Comilla Victorians owner Nafisa Kamal believes his club has what it takes to fight against any elite squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sylhet Strikers of Mashrafe Mortaza were defeated by the Victorians on Thursday, February 16, in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023 championship game.
The Victorians not only won their fourth championship, but they also successfully defended it. Before the competition began, Kamal claimed that his team researched a number of IPL teams.
Nafisa was quoted as saying to BDcrictime, “IPL has the top most franchises in the world and we can compete with them.” He commented that their campaign was the result of extensive study and investigation. They have looked at a lot of IPL teams that have pulled off comebacks.
Additionally, Nafisa discussed the crucial role that Mohammad Rizwan played in the tournament run of the Victorians. She claimed that Rizwan discussed his Pakistan Super League (PSL) squad to bolster the players’ spirits.
She told the media that they were joined by Mohammad Rizwan, who revealed that the Multan Sultans won the championship despite losing six games. There was no going back; they were resolved to make a comeback.
The Victorians lost three straight games to begin their campaign. However, they fought back and won 11 straight games to win the game. Additionally, Imrul Kayes and company established the BPL record for the longest winning run (eight games) ever.
With the help of seven fours and five sixes, Johnson Charles struck an unbeaten 79 off 52 to win Player of the Match in the championship. With four balls remaining after his strike, the Victorians successfully chased down 176.
Here is a brief history of how the Bangladesh Premier League was formed.
A professional Twenty20 cricket league is called the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and it is run by the BPL Governing Council. One of Bangladesh’s three professional cricket leagues is the BPL. The BPL is the 16th most-watched league in the world. Each team plays the other twice during the league stage in the winter. The top four teams make it to the playoffs after the regular season, which consist of a single-elimination game, two qualification games, and a championship game between the winners of qualification 1 and Qualifier 2.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) established the BPL in 2011 following the suspension of the league it replaced, the 2009–2010 National Cricket League Twenty20. Matches from the inaugural season were held in February 2012 in Dhaka and Chittagong. The BPL is under the chairmanship of the Governing Council.
